Renowned Kenyan Actor Bilal Wanjau has passed away.
Wanjau died on the night of Wednesday, December 3, while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi.
The actor had been admitted to KNH since Monday, December 1, after he began experiencing pain in one of his legs.
“We brought him to the hospital on Monday, and they ran tests till Wednesday. The doctors were about to begin treatment before he passed on later in the night,” the family spokesperson said.
Actress Sandra Dacha also confirmed Wanjau’s death, saying he passed on after developing complications linked to diabetes.
Dacha eulogised the late Wanjau, describing him as highly gifted and a significant figure in Kenya’s creative industry.
“It is with profound sorrow that I announce the untimely passing of my colleague Bilal Wanjau this early morning due to diabetes complications,” Dacha said.
“Bilal was a great, talented actor. We’ve lost one of the best in the industry. The burial date is set for Friday (tomorrow), 5/12/2025, at his rural home in Machakos. Kindly keep the family in your prayers. May God rest his soul in eternal peace.”
The late Wanjau featured in TV shows like Sumu la Penzi, Tahidi High, Jela 5 Star (Afande Kasoro), Njoro wa Uba, and Hullabaloo Estate, among others.
Wanjau won the Best Performance in a Comedy in Kalasha awards 2017 for his role in Jela 5 Star drama series.
The late actor also featured in Showmax’s Pepeta, 4Play as Michael, Lies That Bind, Sumu la Mapenzi, Bazenga, The Runaway, where he played The Boss, Wimped as Phil Wachira, and Gamble of the Kid
Wanjau was the son of Ibrahim Bilali, a retired flyweight boxer who won a bronze medal in the flyweight division at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California.
