The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has listed Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru and Mombasa among key areas expected to receive rainfall over the next five days, according to its latest five-day weather outlook covering December 23 to December 27, 2025
In its forecast issued on December 22, KMD said occasional rainfall is expected over the southern half of the country, affecting major urban centres and surrounding regions during the festive period. The department noted that rains will occur mainly in the afternoons and nights, with some areas also experiencing morning showers.
“The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and neighbouring counties, are likely to experience cloudy conditions breaking into sunny intervals, with showers and thunderstorms over a few places,” the forecast stated.
Residents in the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley – covering Kisumu and Nakuru counties should also expect rainfall over a few places, particularly in the afternoons and nights. These areas may experience showers accompanied by thunderstorms, while temperatures are expected to remain moderate, with maximums of around 32°C and cooler nights.
At the Coast, including Mombasa, KMD forecasts showers over a few places in the mornings, with occasional afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Coastal temperatures are expected to remain warm, with daytime highs of about 34°C and minimum temperatures of around 23°C.
KMD has advised the public to remain alert to changing weather conditions, especially motorists, farmers, and those planning outdoor activities during the holiday season.
The department also warned of strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots over parts of Marsabit County, urging caution for residents and maritime activities in affected areas.
The Meteorological Department emphasized that county-specific forecasts are available through county meteorological offices and encouraged Kenyans to follow daily updates for more localized information.
