Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has been elected as the party leader of the Ukweli Party.
In a post on Saturday, June 13, Mwangi said he was elected to the role during a National Delegates Conference (NDC) held on Friday.
“Yesterday, I was elected as the party leader of Ukweli Party by our party members, who travelled from all over Kenya to take part in our National Delegates Conference in Nairobi,” he stated.
The activist-turned-politician described his election as a collective victory for Kenyans seeking transformative leadership and a more inclusive political system.
“This victory is not about one individual. It is about all of us who believe Kenya deserves better. We now have the opportunity to build a party that listens, that includes, and that works for every Kenyan — regardless of where they come from, what they believe, or who they voted for in the past,” he said.
Mwangi noted the party’s immediate focus would be on strengthening its structures across the country, cultivating principled leadership, and rebuilding public confidence in politics.
Further, he thanked the Ukweli party delegates who participated in the election process, expressing gratitude for the confidence they had placed in him.
“Thank you to every delegate who participated in this democratic process. Thank you for your trust. Let’s build a party that works for all Kenyans. The journey to liberate our nation continues,” Mwangi added.
This comes months after Mwangi declared his interest in running for President in the 2027 General election, joining a list of aspirants seeking to challenge President William Ruto.
In a statement in August 2025, the human rights activist made it clear that he would be on the ballot in next year’s general election.
“Thank you for the positive response to my announcement that I will be running for the Presidency. Let’s organize to win the 2027 presidential elections, and build a Kenya that works for all of us,” he wrote.
