A somber journey for AFC Leopards football club supporters turned volatile on Sunday, December 28, 2025, when a bus carrying members of the club’s Githurai Branch was involved in an accident at Timboroa, a notorious black spot along the Nairobi-Eldoret highway.
The Latema Sacco bus, transporting fans to either a funeral or the Vulai Festival in Kakamega, overturned, leaving several passengers with varying degrees of injuries.
AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani confirmed the incident via social media, expressing relief that no fatalities were reported.
“A Latema bus carrying AFC Leopards SC members has been involved in an accident at Timboroa, several members have been injured,” Ambani stated, adding, “Our prayers are with them. I pray for the quickest recovery of the injured. In my prayers.” .
Emergency response teams swiftly transported the injured to nearby medical facilities, where their conditions have been stabilized, averting fears of life-threatening complications.
The incident has sent repercussions through the Kenyan football community, prompting an outpouring of solidarity from rival clubs and sporting officials.
This accident highlights growing road safety concerns during the festive season, exacerbated by increased travel, heavy rains, and reduced visibility.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) had previously urged motorists to exercise extreme caution due to these hazardous conditions.
