Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has announced plans to ditch the ODM Party for a new political party.
Speaking during an interview on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Babu said he would take up the position of a party leader in the new outfit.
The ODM lawmaker noted that the new party will bring together leaders from across the country, and the party positions will be distributed across different regions.
“A new party is coming, and I will be the party leader. The Secretary-General position will go to Western Kenya, while the chairperson will come from either the Central or Coast region,” said Babu.
The MP also noted that Siaya Governor James Orengo is expected to serve as the party’s patron.
“We have our father, Orengo, who will serve as the party’s patron. This party will represent the people of the Coast, the Central region, North Eastern, and every other community. This is not a regional party. It is a national party,” he said.
This comes days after political strategist and communications expert Pauline Njoroge resigned from the Jubilee Party after 14 years of service.
In a statement, Njoroge announced her resignation as the Jubilee Party’s Deputy Organizing Secretary, her position on the National Executive Committee (NEC), and her membership in the party with immediate effect.
“I believe the time has come to embrace a new chapter,” Njoroge said.
She added, “Every meaningful journey reaches a point where one must embrace a new season. For me, that moment has arrived.”
Njoroge said she would devote her efforts to advancing the Linda Mwananchi movement’s mission of defending constitutionalism, the rule of law and human rights while championing leadership anchored on service and accountability.
“As one chapter closes, another begins. I step into it with optimism, renewed purpose and an unwavering belief that Kenya deserves leadership that listens, unites and puts citizens first,” she said.
