Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has suffered a fresh blow after the High Court issued orders freezing bank accounts linked to him, his wife, children, and 10 other suspects.
Justice Benjamin Mwikya issued the orders on Thursday, January 15, following a Ksh813 million civil recovery case filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
“In my mind, the preservation orders were not in force when this matter appeared before the trial judge. Had they been in place, the court would have addressed the merits of the prayers in the application dated November 4, 2025,” Justice Mwikya stated.
Governor Wamatangi and his co-accused will not be able to access the funds until further directions from the court, which is set to mention the case on Wednesday, February 4.
“I therefore agree with the plaintiff’s counsel that the circumstances have changed, and in the interest of justice, I grant prayer to the plaintiff’s application until February 4, 2026, when this matter will be placed before the court,” he ruled.
The frozen bank accounts have been registered under King Group Company Ltd, King Realtors Ltd, King Construction Company Ltd, Quick Fix Auto Garage ltd and Lub Plus Oil and Energy Company Ltd.
According to EACC, the companies were awarded tenders to the tune of Ksh813 million while Wamatangi served as the Kiambu senator and a member of the Senate committee on Roads, Transportation, and Housing.
This comes a day after Governor Wamatangi’s business premises near Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi were demolished.
In a statement after the demolition, Kenya Railways Corporation said the demolition was part of preparations to construct a railway station connecting Nairobi Central Station through Nyayo National Stadium to Kibera and Talanta Sports City Stadium.
“The Government intends to construct a railway station adjacent to Nyayo National Stadium and a railway spur line from the Nairobi Central station through the Nyayo National Stadium area, Kibera to Talanta Sports City Stadium,” the corporation stated.
