Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has declared 14 areas in Trans Mara, Narok County, as security-disturbed and dangerous.
In a gazette notice dated December 19, CS Murkomen said the areas were listed following recent ethnic clashes that have been witnessed.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 106 (1) of the National Police Service Act, 2011, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, in consultation with the National Security Council, has made a declaration on 19th December, 2025, declaring parts of Narok County as security disturbed and dangerous,” read the notice in part.
Murkomen pointed out that the declaration will remain in force for a period of 30 days and may be extended or withdrawn at any time.
“This notice shall take effect on the 19th December, 2025, as from 6.00 p.m., for a period of thirty (30) days and may, at any time, be withdrawn or continued in force for such further period as the Cabinet Secretary may, in each case, by notice in the Kenya Gazette direct,” the notice added.
The 14 areas include Nkaroru Oldonyo-Orok, Siteti, Ololoma, Corner, Ratiki, Isokon, Kerinkani, Kondamet, Olkiloriti, Angata Barakoi, Kapkeres, Lolgorien Town, and Mashangwa.
At the same time, Murkomen said the declaration will allow security operations to be scaled up and peace-building interventions to be rolled out in earnest.
“A dawn-to-dusk curfew is already in force, and security presence in the affected areas has been significantly enhanced. Calm is gradually returning, even as we continue engaging local leaders and security stakeholders to address the root causes of the conflict.
“The Government remains committed to ensuring that the communities, which have for a long time lived together in peace and harmony, bring an end to the current animosities and fully embrace peaceful coexistence,” he said in a statement.
This comes after violent clashes between the Masai and Kipsigis communities erupted in Trans Mara, leaving several people dead and property destroyed.
