Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a man believed to be behind the brutal murder of three family members – a mother, daughter and 12-year-old niece.
In a statement on Sunday, November 3, DCI said the suspect was apprehended in Eastleigh, Nairobi where he was hiding.
“Detectives have successfully apprehended Hashim Dagane Muhumed today after an extensive investigation into the tragic murders of a mother, her daughter, and her 12-year-old niece. The horrifying crime prompted a determined manhunt for the suspect,” DCI stated.
The suspect is currently in custody ahead of alignment at the Makadara Chief Magistrates Court over the murders.
“Muhumed is currently in police custody, where he is undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment scheduled for tomorrow at the Makadara Chief Magistrates Court. The DCI remains committed to ensuring justice for the victims and their grieving families,” DCI added.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect had illegally obtained a Kenyan identity card.
He also served as a regional police officer in Ethiopia before being arrested and jailed for allegedly murdering his wife. He later fled to Kenya where he set up a base and started a taxi business in Eastleigh and Parklands.
The arrest came just days after the DCI appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information they may have about the suspect after preliminary inquiries suggested he was the suspect seen on CCTV driving the car that picked up the victims.
The bodies of Nusayba, Amina, and Dahabo were found at Bahati in Makadara, 6th Avenue Parklands, and Khyumbi, in Machakos respectively, with the hands of Dohabo chopped off.
