DCI Arrests Suspect Who Conned Job Seekers Sh8.6 Million in Fake Gov’t Jobs Scam

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspect accused of orchestrating a fake government jobs scheme that allegedly defrauded job seekers of more than Sh8.6 million.

In a statement, the DCI said the suspect, identified as Derrick Fanuel Oduor, is alleged to have received Sh8,621,141 from unsuspecting victims after promising to secure them jobs in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the National Police Service (NPS) and the Public Service Commission (PSC).

“The long arm of the law has finally caught up with a suspect accused of orchestrating an elaborate employment scam that fleeced desperate job seekers of more than Sh8.6 million through fake promises of securing government jobs,” DCI stated.

The DCI launched investigations into the alleged scam began after several complaints were lodged at Baragoi Police Station.

Detectives from the DCI’s Samburu North office subsequently launched investigations, which identified Oduor as the prime suspect.

The detectives established that the suspect had allegedly gone into hiding and repeatedly ignored police summons.

However, his run from the law came to an end after detectives tracked him down to his hideout in Nairobi, arrested him and escorted him to Samburu to face the charges.

During the operation, detectives also recovered two motor vehicles believed to have been acquired using proceeds from the alleged fraud.

The recovered vehicles, a Toyota Axio (registration KCW 432B) and a Toyota Mark X (registration KCY 640U), have been detained as exhibits as investigations continue.

The suspect was arraigned before the Maralal Law Courts on July 3, 2026, where detectives obtained orders allowing them to detain him for 10 days to complete investigations.

He remains in lawful custody and is expected to appear in court again on July 13, 2026.
