Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a manhunt for two men after the emergence of a viral assault video on the internet.
In a statement on Monday, DCI said detectives in Bunyala Sub County are looking for Edwin Ogolla and Denis Asabu who were caught on camera assaulting a minor entrusted in their care.
“Bunyala Sub-County detectives are hotly pursuing Edwin Ogolla and Denis Asabu, who are wanted for the assault of a minor as captured on a camera recording that has been widely shared on various social media outlets,” read part of the statement by DCI.
According to the investigative agency, the heart-wrenching incident took place three months ago at the minor’s home located in the Musoma area. The matter was reported at Port Victoria Police Station by children’s officers.
“During the incident, the minor’s uncle, namely Edwin Ogolla, was captured on camera while manhandling him as his father recorded the happenings without an iota of guilt,” DCI stated.
The minor suffered serious injuries that are still healing due to a lack of immediate medical attention. When the incident came to light, children’s officers took the minor to the hospital where he was treated and the medical form (P3) filled out.
DCI further said the two suspects are believed to have left the country to escape from the police following the incident.
“Further, detectives in Bunyala recorded witness statements and launched hot pursuit for the two ruffians. They are on the run and believed to be holed up in a neighboring country. However, pragmatic measures are underway to flush them out and bring them to justice,” DCI added.
