Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has dismissed Juja MP George Koimburi’s claims that he has defected from the party.
In a statement on Thursday, January 15, DCP Secretary-General Hezron Obaga said Koimburi has never formally been a member of the party.
Obaga pointed out that the Juja constituency lawmaker had not participated in DCP party activities for the past six months.
“Let it be known that Hon. Koimburi has never been a member of the party and has never been involved in party activities.
“Indeed, despite having been an ally of the party leader, he has not accompanied him in any public function for the last six months while giving all manner of excuses,” read the statement in part.
Obaga also said Koimburi requested an urgent meeting with Gachagua on Monday, January 12.
Gachagua granted Koimburi’s request he met him in his private office at 5 pm on the same day, accompanied by Peter Mwathi, the Deputy National Chairperson of DCP.
During the meeting, Koimburi expressed concern over the inclusion of Aloise Kinyanjui, his competitor in the last General Elections, in party activities.

According to Obaga, Koimburi demanded that Kinyanjui be removed from the party, arguing that MPs and senators who opposed Gachagua’s impeachment should be guaranteed direct nominations for the 2027 General Election.
The Juja MP also demanded to be exempted from attending public functions with Gachagua until February next year to slow down the prosecution of the various cases facing him.
Gachagua thanked Koimburi for his support during the impeachment process, but informed him that DCP is a democratic party and all positions will be determined through free and fair party nominations.
“He threatened to move back to rejoin William Ruto if his conditions were not met,” Obaga added.
On Wednesday, Koimburi announced his exit from Gachagua’s camp, accusing the former Deputy President of betraying him.
He claimed that he had been treated unfairly despite being loyal to the party and its leadership from the beginning.
“I was a die-hard supporter of Rigathi Gachagua. From the time he was removed from government, I have followed him, I have respected him, and I have done many things for him. I have even been thrown into a cell and detained, and I have many cases in court because of following Gachagua.
“I cannot accept a party that takes bribes or demands money from people who want to contest for certain positions,” Koimburi stated.
