President William Ruto on Friday night held a phone call conversation with the new US President Donald Trump.
In a statement, Ruto said he congratulated him following his re-election before they discussed areas of mutual interest between Kenya and the US.
Among the issues discussed by Ruto and Trump were trade and investment, security, and good governance.
“I have had a telephone conversation with US President-Elect Donald Trump. I congratulated him following his election as the 47th President of the United States of America.
“We discussed areas of mutual interest that are of benefit to the citizens of our two countries, including trade and investment, security and good governance,” said Ruto.
At the same time, Ruto briefed Trump on the Kenyan-led peace motion to Haiti and discussed areas of cooperation between the two countries to bring stability to the Caribbean nation.
“I briefed President Trump on the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti and possible areas of cooperation with the US government on this important conflict resolution initiative,” Ruto added.
The phone conversation came barely a day after Ruto held another conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
In a statement, Ruto said they discussed the transition of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti into a UN peacekeeping operation.
“I have had a constructive conversation with US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti.
“We discussed the transition of the mission into a UN peacekeeping operation to enhance the capability of the mission to help stabilize Haiti,” said Ruto.
During the conversation, Ruto and Blinken also discussed the Tumaini Peace Initiative where the Secretary emphasized that South Sudanese leaders must take full advantage of the talks being spearheaded by the Kenyan government.
