Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives from Nakuru have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and confiscated bhang valued at approximately Ksh11,610,000.
In a statement on Monday, January 19, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect was arrested after detectives intercepted a Toyota Voxy vehicle along Kabarak-Nakuru Road.
The driver of the Voxy managed to escape, but his co-driver, identified as Dennis Mukungua, was swiftly arrested by the officers.
“Acting on credible intelligence, detectives collaborating with officers from the Dog Unit intercepted a silver Toyota Voxy with registration number KBN 486Z along Kabarak-Nakuru Road.
“While the driver managed to slip through the net, the co-driver, identified as Dennis Mukungua, was not so fortunate and was swiftly apprehended,” DCI stated.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 12 green sacks and 12 bales of bhang weighing a total of 387 kilograms.
Mukungua, along with the impounded vehicle and the seized narcotics, was escorted to the police station for processing, where he awaits arraignment.
Elsewhere, detectives from Keiyo South teamed up with officers from Metkei Police Station, intercepting a Toyota Fielder, registration number KDV 627S, driven by Vincent Odhiambo in the Kapchorwa area of Kamwosor Location.
A search of the vehicle uncovered seven bags of bhang, leading to the immediate arrest of the driver.
Odhiambo was escorted, along with the seized drugs and vehicle, to Metkei police station for necessary legal proceedings.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains firmly committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks through sustained operations and multi-agency collaboration, with zero tolerance for traffickers regardless of status,” DCI added.
This comes days after detectives arrested a 42-year-old suspect and recovered heroin worth Ksh 1.19 million that was concealed in a luggage on a motorcycle.
