Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Sergeant Gilbert Kiama Oduor, attached to Kisumu Mamboleo Police Post, in connection with soliciting and receiving a bribe of Ksh15,000.
In a statement, EACC said Oduor was apprehended after receiving reports that he demanded a bribe from the kin of a suspect who was in custody on allegations of possessing bhang.
“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on 28th January 2026 arrested Sergeant Gilbert Kiama Oduor, attached to Kisumu Mamboleo Police Post, for soliciting and receiving a bribe of KES 15,000.
“The Commission commenced investigations after receiving a report that the officer was demanding a bribe from a complainant whose kin had been taken into custody on allegations of possessing bhang,” EACC stated.
According to the commission, police officers from Mamboleo Police Post, led by the area chief, raided the home of one John Oluoch.
Although no contraband was recovered, Oluoch was nevertheless arrested and booked at the police post on 23rd January 2026.
“It is alleged that upon follow-up, the complainant was referred to Sergeant Kiama, who demanded the bribe to ensure that Mr. Oluoch would not be taken to court to answer the alleged possession charges. The complainant subsequently reported the matter to the Commission,” EACC stated.
Investigations established that officers from Mamboleo Police Post facilitated Oluoch to solicit bribe money from relatives while he was held in custody from 23rd January 2026 until 28th January 2026, when he was eventually taken to court.
EACC conducted an operation on January 28 that led to the arrest of the suspect at the Winam Law Courts, as he received the Kes15,000 bribe from the complainant.
The suspect was booked at the Railways and Ports Police Station, processed, and later released on bond pending the conclusion of investigations.
