Former Likuyani Member of Parliament Enoch Kibunguchy Wamalwa has passed away after a prolonged illness, confirmed on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
His death comes just days after his predecessor in Lugari, Cyrus Jirongo, died in a road accident, marking a somber period for the region’s political community.
Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera announced Kibunguchy’s passing at an Eldoret hospital. Nabwera expressed deep sadness, remembering Kibunguchy as “not just a leader, but a man I knew personally and shared many moments of reflection and guidance with.”
Born on August 20, 1953, Dr. Kibunguchy’s departure signifies “the end of a life devoted selflessly to service and the upliftment of his people.”
Kibunguchy was particularly lauded for his commitment to education. “He believed deeply that knowledge was the greatest equaliser, and he translated this belief into action by initiating and supporting the establishment of several schools from the ground up,” Nabwera stated.
His efforts have left a lasting legacy, with “thousands of learners walk(ing) through doors that exist because he dared to dream for them.”
Kibunguchy first served as MP for Lugari from 2003 to 2007, succeeding Cyrus Jirongo.
Following a constituency subdivision, he became the founding MP for Likuyani, serving two consecutive terms from 2013 to 2022.
The news of Kibunguchy’s death follows closely on the heels of Cyrus Jirongo’s fatal road accident on the Nairobi–Nakuru highway on December 13, 2025.
Jirongo, 64, died after his Mercedes-Benz collided head-on with a Climax Company Limited bus. A postmortem revealed he died from blunt force trauma, sustaining severe injuries to his chest, abdomen, spinal cord, and legs.
The circumstances surrounding Jirongo’s accident have raised questions, with conflicting eyewitness accounts and ongoing investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
