The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported former National Football League (NFL) player Daniel Ogama Adongo back to Kenya.
In a statement, ICE said Adongo, 37, was removed from the country on June 20 after an immigration judge ordered his deportation on March 23, 2026.
According to ICE, Adongo overstayed his visa in 2016 after his National Football League (NFL) career came to an end in 2015.
Adongo had also been arrested multiple times by law enforcement in Indiana over the past nine years on charges including felony intimidation, battery, and disorderly conduct.
He was convicted of criminal mischief resulting in property damage in 2020 and sentenced to 364 days in jail.
ICE also said Adongo’s most recent criminal charges fell under the Laken Riley Act, a federal law signed by President Donald Trump on January 29, 2025.
The legislation requires the detention without bond of undocumented immigrants accused of certain criminal offences.
Commenting on the deportation, ICE Chicago Assistant Field Office Director Douglas Thompson said Adongo posed a threat to public safety.
“This dangerous individual was clearly a threat to the community, which is now safer since he’s been removed,” Thompson said.
He added, “Those who violate immigration law are held equally accountable, including former professional athletes.”
Adongo joined the Indianapolis Colts in 2013 after being recruited from rugby despite having no prior experience playing American football.
He spent two seasons with the NFL franchise before his professional football career ended in 2015.
