Four Arrested as Police Recover Cannabis Bales in Kibra Makina Area

Police in Nairobi Kibra Sub-County have significantly escalated their operations against illicit alcohol and narcotic drugs, marking a renewed commitment to public safety.

This intensified crackdown follows a recent targeted raid in the Makina area on Monday, December 29, 2025, which saw the arrest of four suspects and the seizure of a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis sativa.

During the Makina operation, officers recovered three bales of suspected cannabis sativa and impounded a motor vehicle believed to have been used in transporting the drugs.

The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody, awaiting their arraignment in court. “This operation demonstrates our commitment to combating the trafficking and distribution of illegal substances that threaten public safety,” stated the NPS.

The crackdown extends beyond narcotics to include illicit alcohol. The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), in collaboration with Nairobi police, conducted a 2 AM raid in Sarangombe ward on September 18, 2025, dismantling two illicit brew distilleries hidden along a riverbank and destroying massive stockpiles of kangara, a toxic raw ingredient.

NACADA CEO Anthony Omerikwa emphasized that such operations are part of the government’s 100 Days Rapid Results Initiative on drugs and illicit liquor, aiming to protect Kenyan families.

Similar multi-agency raids have also targeted illicit alcohol distilleries in other regions, such as Narok and Homa Bay, indicating a nationwide effort to curb the proliferation of harmful substances.

The NPS has urged the public to provide information on suspicious activities through their toll-free numbers, emphasizing that “Cooperation is key to keeping communities safe.”

The community engagement is deemed essential in preventing youth and vulnerable populations from falling victim to the dangers of illicit substances.
