Fred Matiang’i Clarifies Viral Photo With Junet Mohamed and Simba Arati

Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Fred Matiang’i has dismissed claims that he held talks with Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and Kisii Governor Simba Arati.

In a statement on Saturday, July 4, Matiang’i explained that he merely bumped into the duo at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The former Interior CS noted that they were travelling on separate assignments, with Arati and Junet heading to Kisumu while he proceeded to attend a church service in Kisumu County.

“This morning, after checking in at the Kenya Airways desk at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, I bumped into Kisii Governor Hon. Simba Arati and Suna East MP Hon. Junet Mohamed, who had also checked in and were travelling to Kisumu. It was a chance encounter as each of us proceeded to board our flight,” said Matiang’i.

He also dismissed claims that the photographs were taken during a meeting held the previous night, insisting there was no planned engagement between them.

“Contrary to false claims circulating online, this was neither a meeting held last night nor a planned engagement. It was simply a chance encounter between leaders at the airport,” Matiang’i explained.

Further, the Jubilee Deputy Party Leader said he travelled to Ahero, where he joined Siaya Governor James Orengo, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua and other faithful for a church service.

“I then proceeded to Kisumu to join Siaya Governor Hon. James Orengo, People’s Liberation Party Leader Hon. Martha Karua, and the faithful for a church service at Apondo SDA Church in Ahero,” he added.

Matiang’i’s clarification comes after opposition leaders converged in Kisii for a Linda Mwananchi movement empowerment forum that drew former Chief Justice David Maraga, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other leaders.
