The Kenyan online community is in mourning following the passing of freelance journalist Kibet Bernard, whose death was confirmed on Friday, November 14, 2025. Tributes have flooded social media where Bernard had a significant following and was widely respected for his insightful commentary and support for emerging journalists.
He was a prolific writer who maintained a personal blog and contributed opinion pieces to various media outlets. His work often focused on governance, social issues, and Pan-African ideals. One of his most notable posts advocated for a united Africa and greater integration within the Global South, encouraging African nations to foster investment-friendly environments and emphasize African history education.
“Today is another sad day. I still can’t believe you are no longer with us. You had such a promising future ahead of you. Rest in peace, bro,” tweeted Jethro Koech.
Bernard was also remembered for his generosity and mentorship. “I am so heartbroken by this. Kibet held my hand with KWS gigs, and life was so good then.”
Journalist Cyprian Nyakundi added, “RIP KibetBenard. It’s heartbreaking to lose someone so young and full of promise.”
The news of his passing came as a shock, especially since his last social media activity on October 31, 2025, promoted the Kenya International Theatre (KIT) Festival. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been publicly disclosed.
