Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday called on Mt Kenya locals to remain peaceful regardless of the outcome of the court case challenging his removal from office.

Speaking during a funeral in Limuru, Kiambu County, Gachagua told Mt Kenya residents to keep in mind that other communities in the country have not wronged them hence the need to keep peace.

“I want to ask for peace. The Mt Kenya region should remain peaceful and interact with other communities peacefully because they have not wronged us. Regardless of the outcome of the court case, our people should remain peaceful,” said Gachagua.

At the same time, Gachagua lauded his supporters for staying calm during the impeachment proceedings.

Gachagua said he was aware of people who believed he had no supporters from the region, but assured Kenyans that he had several, but his community was not the type to create chaos or make a lot of noise, but the type to watch and wait.

“There are people who are asking why there were no protests, or if I do not have a following. Going to the streets is not what we do. The day will come when we do what we do,” he added.

Further, Gachagua expressed confidence in the courts that they would over justice following his impeachment.

“We have faith that the judiciary will uphold the constitution of Kenya and will exercise fairness and will give justice to Rigathi Gachagua and his supporters,” he remarked.

The verdict, to be delivered on Thursday 31 October by judges Eric Ogola, Freda Mugambi, and Anthony Mrima, will determine whether Kithure Kindiki will be sworn in as the next DP or Gachagua will be reinstated as the second in command.
