Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday sent a message to Members of Parliament after they overwhelmingly voted to impeach him weeks ago.
Speaking during a funeral in Limuru, Kiambu County, Gachagua said the move by the lawmakers angered Kenyans and hence that is why they were not being given chances to speak publicly.
” As you can see members of Parliament, you are not given a platform to speak because what you did in Parliament angered Kenyans,” said Gachagua.
The former DP was impeached on October 8 by the National Assembly after 282 MPs voted for his removal from office while 44 voted against it while only one abstained.
Gachagua denied all the charges leveled against him describing the impeachment plot on him as outrageous, sheer propaganda, and a political witchhunt.
The Senate also upheld the impeachment with senators approving 5 out of the 11 counts that had been tabled against Gachagua.
Following his impeachment Gachagua moved to the high court to challenge the decision and to stop Interior CS Kithure Kindiki from being appointed as Deputy President.
On Wednesday, Gachagua expressed his confidence in the judiciary’s ability to follow the Constitution and deliver justice.
“We have faith that the judiciary will uphold the constitution of Kenya and will exercise fairness and will give justice to Rigathi Gachagua and his supporters,” he remarked.
The verdict, to be delivered on Thursday 31 October by judges Eric Ogola, Freda Mugambi, and Anthony Mrima, will determine whether Kithure Kindiki will be sworn in as the next DP or Gachagua will be reinstated as the second in command.
