Government has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Trans Mara East and South, Narok County, following a surge in violent clashes that have claimed at least seven lives and razed over 120 homes.
The drastic measure comes after a security assessment led by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat, and Gilbert Masengeli, who officially designated the affected areas as “security-disturbed and dangerous”.
The escalating conflict, particularly in Angata Barikkoi, has triggered a humanitarian crisis, displacing more than 1,800 individuals in just three days.
Families, including vulnerable children, women, and persons with disabilities, are now seeking refuge in schools, dispensaries, and open fields, their food stores destroyed by the rampant fires.
The Kenya Red Cross Society has highlighted the severe impact on these groups, emphasizing the urgent need for assistance.
The imposition of the curfew, effective immediately, aims to restore order and prevent further bloodshed in the volatile region.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the deteriorating security situation and protecting its citizens.
Authorities are urging residents to comply with the new directives as efforts to de-escalate tensions and provide aid to those affected continue.
