Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya is recovering after he was involved in an accident on Christmas Day.
Trans Nzoia County Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development CECM Pius Gumo revealed Natembeya’s condition during the memorial service of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo.
According to Gumo, Governor Natembeya broke his leg during the accident. He, however, did not disclose the nature of the accident.
“I have brought the condolence message of Governor George Natembeya. He got involved in an accident during Christmas, and he broke his leg; that is why he could not be here. He would have loved to be here to console the family,” said Gumo.
In his condolence message, delivered by Gumo, Natembeya eulogized the late Jirongo as a truthful leader who was deeply mindful of the interests and well-being of the people of Bungoma County and Kenya at large.
“On his behalf, I would like to console you and remind you of his message to the family, and recognise Jirongo as a leader who championed the interests of the lowly citizens, and that we as leaders should do the same,” Gumo added.
Governor Natembeya’s last public appearance was on December 24, when he visited the Wamalwa Kijana Hospital in Trans Nzoia County.
The late Jirongo passed away on Saturday, December 13, following a road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway in the early morning hours.
A postmortem examination conducted on his body by Family pathologist Dr. Joseph Ndung’urevealed that he died from blunt force trauma.
“As a result of our examination, we formed an opinion that the late Cyrus Jirongo died as a result of a crush injury to the chest, abdomen, and also a spinal injury due to blunt force trauma,” Dr. Ndung’u explained.
