The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy has confirmed a cybersecurity incident affecting the official website of the President.
In a statement on Saturday, July 18, ICT CS William Kabogo said the ICT Authority moved swiftly after detecting the incident by activating established cybersecurity incident response protocols.
Kabogo noted that access to the Presidential website was temporarily restricted to facilitate containment, forensic analysis and restoration efforts.
“Upon detection of the incident, the ICT Authority immediately activated established cybersecurity incident response protocols.
“As a precautionary measure, access to the Presidential website was temporarily restricted to facilitate containment, forensic analysis and restoration efforts,” read the statement in part.
Kabogo also informed the public that there is currently no evidence of unauthorized access to sensitive data, data exfiltration, or information loss.
“At this time, there is no evidence of unauthorized access to sensitive data, data exfiltration, or loss of information. Government systems and digital services remain secure and operational,” the ICT CS said.
Further, Kabogo said the ICT Authority is working with relevant government agencies and technical partners to conduct a comprehensive forensic investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The official website of the President was hacked on Saturday morning, with its homepage replaced by a message targeting President William Ruto and demanding a KSh 41 million ransom.
“This message is the third time for you; before we leak everything about you. Do a payment of 5 bitcoins to the Bitcoin wallet…. If you want peace before 6 o’clock this evening,” the homepage read.
