The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has issued an update on the recent increase in cases recorded in the country over the last few weeks.

In a statement on Thursday evening, Kanja noted that a total of 339 homicides have been recorded so far in 2024, compared to 336 cases in 2023 and 341 cases in 2022.

“The attention of the National Police Service is drawn to the disturbing patterns of murder cases reported to the Police in the past two months. A comparative analysis of murder cases reported from August to October for the years 2022-2024, indicates a slight increase. In 2024, a total of 339 murder cases have so far been recorded, compared with 336 cases in 2023 and 341 cases in 2022 respectively,” read the letter in part.

Kanja mentioned that 52-year-old Willis Onyango Aiyeko, a Wells Fargo employee whose partially discomposed body was found in the Mungowere stream in Khwisero Sub-County was initially reported missing at Siaya Police Station on October 21, 2024.

The family will transport the body to Nairobi today, October 24, 2024, from Siaya Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, under police escort, pending the autopsy process.

On the body suspected to be that of the MCA Hon. Yusuf Hussein, Member for Dela Ward, Wajir County, who went missing on September 13, 2024, in Makadara Nairobi, the IG said the body was found floating at Lake Yahud in Wajir East Sub County on October 20, 2024.

“An autopsy conducted on October 21, 2024, by the Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor in the presence of the family doctor, Dr. Daniel Zuriel, and local Members of Parliament, at Wajir County Referral Hospital Morgue, has established the cause of death to be head injury due to blunt trauma,” Kanja stated.

He pointed out that DNA samples from the body and the mother of the MCA, the post-mortem analysis by KEMRI and the government chemist did not match, and concluded that the body did not belong to the said MCA.

Regarding the murders of a family of three in Eastleigh, Kanja said the bodies were awaiting autopsy on Friday.

Dahabo Daud Said, 38, Amina Abdirashid Dahir, 22, and Nusayba Abdi Mohammed, 13, were murdered and their bodies dumped at different locations.

Further, the IG called on the public to cooperate with the police by reporting any criminal activity or suspects to the DCI Homicide Unit or the nearest police station for action.
