The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has ordered a crackdown on criminal gangs across the country.
Speaking on Tuesday, June 16, during a high-level security meeting with senior commanders at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ng’ong, Kanja issued a stern warning over the resurgence of criminal gangs and directed officers to take immediate action against the groups.
“He issued a stern warning against the resurgence of criminal gangs and declared a zero-tolerance policy towards operational negligence.
“He further ordered immediate and decisive action to combat the threat posed by these gangs across the country,” NPS stated.
IG Kanja also commended the senior officers for their relentless efforts in tackling dynamic security threats.
He challenged them to develop efficient and adaptive strategies that maximise the use of available resources to maintain law and order for all Kenyans, residents, and visitors.
The meeting was attended by the top leadership from the Kenya Police Service (KPS), the Administration Police Service (APS), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The meeting reviewed current operational status, analysed emerging crime trends, and developed strategic interventions to strengthen national security.
Kanja’s directive comes after suspected hired goons were captured on CCTV cameras disrupting a meeting at All Saints Cathedral Church in Nairobi.
DCI detectives from Kilimani have so far arrested three suspects linked to the invasion of All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.
George Omondi Otieno, Effenburg Wanyama Khisa, and Melvin Alumasa Bwani were nabbed at various locations within Nairobi.
During the operation, detectives recovered a red Boxer motorcycle, registration number KMFH 161S, believed to have been used in the commission of the offence.
Additionally, mobile phones recovered from the suspects were also seized and secured for forensic examination to assist in the ongoing investigations
