The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has predicted rainfall across eight regions in the country this weekend.
In a weather forecast on Saturday, December 13, the weatherman warned of heavy rains in Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, North-Eastern, North-Western, South-Eastern Lowlands, Central Kenya, and Nairobi.
“Rainfall is expected over Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, North-Eastern, North-Western, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Central Kenya, including Nairobi. This will bring some relief to many areas,” read the advisory in part.
The Met Department, at the same time, cautioned the inhabitants of Marsabit and Turkana Counties, where strong winds are expected this weekend.
“Heads up! Strong southeasterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s), are expected over Marsabit and Turkana counties. Please take necessary precautions,” the department added.
This comes days after the weatherman projected rainfall in six regions, including the Highlands on both sides of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley itself, and the Coast.
Showers were also predicted in the North-eastern and South-eastern lowlands regions.
However, the forecast indicated that most parts of the country would remain largely sunny and dry during the week.
” Most parts of the country are likely to remain sunny and dry. However, rainfall is expected in a few areas of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, the Coast, North-eastern, and South-eastern Lowlands,” the Met Department stated.
The Met Department also forecasted daytime maximum average temperatures of more than 30°C in the Coast, North-eastern, North-western Kenya as well as over some parts of the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley, and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
Meanwhile, the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and the areas in the vicinity of Mt. Kilimanjaro will experience nighttime minimum temperatures of less than 10°C.
