Kenya has welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between the United States of America (US) and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In a statement on Monday, June 15, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi described the peace deal as a major diplomatic breakthrough that could ease tensions in the Middle East.
Mudavadi noted that the Kenyan government was encouraged by the agreement, which provides for the permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.
“The Government of Kenya warmly welcomes the announcement of the peace agreement between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which provides for the permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon,” he said.
The agreement between the US and Iran is scheduled for an official signing on Friday, 19 June, in Switzerland.
Mudavadi said Kenya has long stood as a steadfast advocate for peace, dialogue, and the peaceful resolution of disputes through multilateral institutions and the community of nations.
“We believe that sustainable solutions to complex global challenges are best achieved through inclusive diplomacy, respect for international law, and the collective wisdom of the international community,” said Mudavadi.
The Prime CS observed that the development is expected to strengthen global energy security, boost international trade, and improve the lives of millions of people affected by the conflict.
Further, Mudavadi urged all stakeholders to uphold the commitments made under the agreement, work towards lasting trust-building measures, and ensure that the gains achieved translate into tangible peace for the region and the wider world.

US Presidnet Donald Trump on Sunday announced that he had reached a peace agreement with Iran, adding that ships would soon move freely through the Staight of Hormuz.
“The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” Trump announced on his Truth Social platform. “Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow.”
