Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi has been arrested.
In a statement on Tuesday, January 20, Kibagendi said he was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The ODM lawmaker said he was taken to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road before being transferred to Muthaiga Police Station.
“I have been aggressively blocked by DCI officers and arrested, and taken to DCI headquarters,” Kibagendi stated.
The lawmaker, who is a vocal critic of President William Ruto, did not disclose the reason for the arrest.
However, reports indicate that Kibagendi was apprehended due to a recent case where he was captured by CCTV beating up a local political operative.
In the CCTV footage from November 2025, the lawmaker was seen storming a restaurant in Kisii town, kicking and beating up the man.
The incidnet promptted staff and other customers of the restaurant to rush in and attempt to separate the two. Despite efforts to restrain him, Kibagendi continued his assault; he punched Moriasi, knocking him to the floor.
On December 2, Kibagendi obtained anticipatory bail of Ksh50,000 from the Kisii High Court, blocking the police from arresting him.
Lady Justice Teresa Achieng’ Odera granted the anticipatory bail following an application filed through Bonuke and Company Advocates.
The ODM MP is expected to be driven back to Kisii, where he will be arraigned on Wednesday, January 21, over the assault charges.
