Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament, Anthony Kibagendi, has been freed on a Ksh100,000 cash bail.
Kibagendi was released after being arraigned before the Narok Law Courts on Wednesday, January 21, where he pleaded not guilty to allegations of assaulting another individual.
Speaking after the ODM MP was granted cash bail, his lawyer, Okong’o Omogeni, condemned the arrest of the MP, describing it as an abuse of power by the state.
Senator Omogeni also hailed the Judiciary for agreeing to grant Kibagendi the cash bail following his dramatic arrest.
“They thought that if they came to Narok, they would influence the courts, but we are happy to announce that the judiciary has demonstrated that it is independent. We want to thank the Magistrate who has ordered that Kibagendi be released on a cash bail of Ksh100,000,” Omogeni stated.
Kibagendi was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in Nairobi by DCI detectives and hustled away towards the DCI Headquarters along Kiambu Road.
In a statement, Kibagendi said he was taken to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road before being transferred to Muthaiga Police Station.
“I have been aggressively blocked by DCI officers and arrested, and taken to DCI headquarters,” Kibagendi stated on his Facebook account.
The Kitutu Chache South MP was then transferred to Keroka Police Station in Nyamira County, where he spent the night.
He was initially set to be arraigned before the Kisii Law Courts, but was taken on Wednesday morning to the Narok Law Courts.
Kibageni’s arrest was in connection with an assault incident that was captured on CCTV in November 2025 at a restaurant in Kisii County.
On December 2, Kibagendi obtained anticipatory bail of Ksh50,000 from the Kisii High Court, blocking the police from arresting him.
Lady Justice Teresa Achieng’ Odera granted the anticipatory bail following an application filed through Bonuke and Company Advocates.
