The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has activated its online portal for checking the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) provisional results, a crucial step before their official announcement.
This routine activation aims to ensure the system’s functionality and capacity to handle the high traffic expected once results are made public, thereby minimizing potential delays and technical issues.
A spot check confirmed the portal is live, displaying a message that provisional results will be accessible only after their formal release.
This move signals the final preparations by the examination body as candidates, parents, and teachers eagerly await the outcome of the examinations, which concluded on November 21, 2025, after approximately five weeks of continuous assessments.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba confirmed that the 2025 KCSE results will be released within the first two weeks of January 2026, adhering to traditional timelines.
He strongly refuted viral social media claims of an earlier release, labeling them as “fake and misleading news” that should be treated “with the contempt it deserves”.
The marking process for the 996,078 candidates who sat for the exams was completed on December 13, 2025, involving 32,558 examiners across 40 centers.
Once released, candidates will be able to access their provisional results by entering their index numbers and examination year on the KNEC portal.
Alternatively, results can be checked via SMS by sending the index number followed by “KCSE” to 20076, or by visiting their respective schools.
These results are pivotal for guiding placement into higher learning and tertiary institutions under the government’s 100 percent transition policy.
