Lands Officer Arrested Over Ksh100,000 Bribery Allegations

A clerical officer attached to the Uasin Gishu Lands Office has been arrested and arraigned in court over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe to facilitate the subdivision of land.

In a statement on Monday, June 8, EACC said the suspect, Noah Kipkemboi Rotich, was presented before the court on Monday and charged with receiving a bribe contrary to the provisions of the Bribery Act, 2016.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested and arraigned a clerical officer attached to the Uasin Gishu Lands Office over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe to facilitate the subdivision of land.

“The accused, Noah Kipkemboi Rotich, was presented before court today and charged with receiving a bribe contrary to the Bribery Act, 2016,” EACC said.

According to the anti-graft body, the case stems from a complaint lodged by a member of the public who alleged that Rotich had demanded a bribe in exchange for facilitating a land subdivision process.

“The case arose from a complaint received by the Commission alleging that Rotich had demanded a bribe to facilitate the subdivision process. Investigations established that he had solicited Kes100,000 from the complainant and received part of the bribe,” EACC said.

Investigations conducted by EACC established that the suspect had allegedly solicited Ksh100,000 from the complainant and received part of the amount.

Following the conclusion of investigations, the commission forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which approved the prosecution

The court granted Rotich a cash bail of Ksh30,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh100,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.

“The accused was granted a cash bail of Kes30,000 or, alternatively, a bond of Kes100,000. EACC remains committed to combating corruption and promoting integrity in public service,” EACC stated.
