Lugulu Girls High School in Bungoma County is facing allegations of imposing mandatory extra charges on parents over the past three years.
In complaints shared online, some parents alleged that the school administration has been introducing additional charges annually, which they claim are not only burdensome.
One of the parents expressed frustration with the school administration, saying school fees in the institution have continued to rise despite the tough economic times.
“I’m a parent at Lugulu Girls High School, and I am devastated by how every year the administration always comes up with extra illegal fees,” the complaint read in part.
The parent claimed that in 2024, they were allegedly required to pay an extra Ksh20,000 as a development fee before students could receive admission letters.
In 2025, the school was accused of having introduced a Ksh15,000 charge for the construction of an administration block.
This year, parents claim they have been asked to pay Ksh10,000 for the cabro works and a borehole project, alongside Ksh 1,700 for Kiswahili textbooks.
Further, the parents allege that they have been asked by the school administration to contribute towards facilitating a teacher’s trip abroad.
” We are really struggling financially. I think this is not fair. It’s impunity. Every year, Form 4 parents are asked to facilitate a teacher’s trip to Dubai,” the Parent claimed.
