Jubilee Party Deputy Party leader Fred Matiang’i has criticised President William Ruto’s government over plans to construct a State Lodge in Meru County.
Speaking on Thursday, June 4, Matiang’i questioned the rationale behind the construction of a new State Lodge in Meru County.
The former Interior CS argued that the government should instead channel the funds to construct a military training facility to create a buffer zone between Meru and Isiolo counties.
“I would advise them to use that money that you are going to build a statehouse in building an ultramodern military training facility to create a buffer zone between Isiolo and Meru to protect our people who are attacked every day,” Matiang’i said.
The Jubilee Deputy party leader also questioned the need for additional State Lodges, noting that transportation infrastructure and improved air travel have eliminated the necessity for the President to maintain multiple official residences.
“From State House, Nairobi, it will be in Meru in 40 minutes or 45 minutes. Why do you need a state lodge here?” Matiang’i questioned.
The former Interior CS is currently on a four-day tour to Meru County.
In a statement on Thursday, Matiang’i said he looks forward to listening, learning, and engaging with Meru locals on the issues that matter most to their families, businesses, and future.
“I have arrived in Meru County to begin a four-day engagement with the people of this great county. I am deeply grateful for the warm and enthusiastic welcome extended to me by the residents and leaders of Meru, led by PNU Party Leader Hon. Peter Munya.
“Over the coming days, I look forward to listening, learning, and engaging with wananchi on the issues that matter most to their families, businesses, and future. Together, we will continue building a united, prosperous, and inclusive Kenya that works for all,” he said.
