Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Thursday visited Ichuni Ward Member of County Assembly Wycliffe Siocha in the hospital.
In a statement via X after visiting the Ichuni MCA, Matiang’i said he wished Siocha a quick recovery.
At the same time, the Jubilee Deputy Party leader strongly condemned the attack on the MCA, describing it as a cowardly act that has no place in a democratic society.
“Today, I visited Hon. Wycliffe Siocha, MCA for Ichuni Ward, to wish him a quick recovery following the unfortunate attack against him. I reaffirm my condemnation of this cowardly act of violence, which has no place in our democracy.
“Every leader deserves the freedom to serve their people without fear, intimidation, or harm. We must reject political violence in all its forms and remain committed to dialogue, respect for differing views, and the rule of law,” Matiang’i stated.
Siocha was attacked on Thursday, June 4, in the morning while he was servicing his car at a garage in Keroka town, Kisii County.
The Ichuni Ward MCA sustained injuries during the attack and was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Following the attack, Matiang’i asked the security agencies to immediately launch investigations into the attack on Siocha.
The former Interior CS also demanded that the police arrest those responsible for the attack and ensure they are prosecuted.
“I therefore call upon all relevant investigative and security agencies to act on this matter immediately, conduct thorough investigations, apprehend those responsible, and ensure they are held fully accountable under the law.
“Impunity only emboldens criminality and undermines public confidence in our institutions,” Matiang’i stated.
