National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s elder brother, James Mukhwana Wetang’ula, has passed away.
In a statement on Wednesday, Wetang’ula announced Mukhwana’s death, saying he was a humble and disciplined retired teacher who made a lasting impact in the community.
“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of my dear elder brother, Mr James Mukhwana Wetang’ula. A retired teacher of great humility, discipline, and wisdom, James touched many lives,” said Wetang’ula.
Mukwana was the firstborn son of Mzee Dominic Khaemba Wetang’ula and the late Mama Anna Wetang’ula.
He was the twin brother of Virginia Mulongo Sikhoya and a brother to Dorothy Watila, Mary Ongamo, Scolastica Opemo, Tim Wanyonyi, Fred Wetang’ula, and Speaker Wetangula.
The National Assembly Speaker eulogised his brother as a devoted father, mentor, and pillar in our community, adding that his legacy as an educator and family man would endure.
“James was a devoted father, mentor, and a pillar in our community. His legacy as an educator and family man remains firmly in our hearts.
“We kindly ask for your prayers and support as we mourn his passing and honour his life. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Wetang’ula added.
MP Wanyonyi mourned Mukhwana as a courageous man whose legacy would continue to guide the family.
“As a family, it is painful and deeply unsettling, but we remain grateful to God for the gift of his life. As it is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, ‘give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
“You fought your battles with courage, you ran your race with honour, and you leave behind a legacy that will continue to guide us. May your soul find everlasting peace until we meet again,” he stated.
