NTSA Announces Alcoblow Crackdown

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced an alcoblow crackdown and road safety enforcement campaign across the Coast region.

In a statement on Monday, NTSA said the crackdown will be led by its Mombasa Regional Office in partnership with the County Government of Mombasa and the National Police Service (NPS).

The initiative includes road safety awareness sessions for drivers and passengers, intensified drink-driving (alcoblow) enforcement, and enhanced compliance operations along major highways to reduce road crashes during the holiday season.

“As schools close for the August holidays, the NTSA Mombasa Regional Office, in collaboration with the County Government of Mombasa and the National Police Service (NPS), has rolled out road safety sensitisation campaigns at major bus parks across the Coast region.

“The campaign includes awareness sessions for drivers and passengers, intensified drink-driving (alcoblow) enforcement, and enhanced road safety compliance operations along major highways to promote safer travel during the holiday period,” NTSA announced.

NTSA emphasized that passengers also have a vital role in promoting safer roads by remaining vigilant and speaking out whenever they observe dangerous driving practices.

The Authority urged travelers to immediately raise the alarm if a driver is operating a vehicle recklessly or irresponsibly and to encourage them to drive safely.

“If your driver is driving recklessly, raise the alarm immediately and encourage them to drive responsibly,” the authority stated.

Further, NTSA called on members of the public to support ongoing enforcement efforts by reporting incidents or unsafe practices that endanger lives, particularly those of children traveling during the school holiday period.
