The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has clarified that mandatory physical fitness tests for public service vehicle (PSV) and commercial drivers have not yet been rolled out.
In a statement on Wednesday, January 28, NTSA said it has yet to roll out the fitness drive targeting PSV and commercial drivers.
“This is to clarify that the mandatory physical fitness tests for PSV and commercial drivers, as required under Section 105A of the Traffic Act (Cap 403), have not yet been rolled out,” NTSA stated.
The authority explained that the medical check-up carried out on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, was organized by ENA Coach in partnership with medical service providers.
NTSA highlighted that similar health and wellness drives for drivers have previously been conducted in different parts of the country with the support of both public and private institutions.
“Similar health drives have previously been conducted in various parts of the country, supported by public transport operators, school transport providers, and a range of public and private entities,” the statement read.
Further, the authority said it is currently working closely with the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) to develop a National Framework for the medical assessment to facilitate the physical fitness tests.
“We assure the public that the rollout of the physical fitness tests and any related requirements will be announced through an official Public Notice and via the Authority’s official communication channels,” NTSA added.
The clarification comes after reports emerged online that NTSA has launched a mandatory nationwide programme in Nairobi, testing the eyesight of drivers in a bid to curb road fatalities.
