The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has summoned officials from Risen Sacco after one of its matatus lost control and overturned along Enterprise Road on Wednesday night.
In a statement on Thursday, June 4, the authority also summoned officials from Royal Swift Express Limited following a crash along the Nairobi-Namanga highway.
NTSA noted that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the two crashes.
“Earlier today, the Authority summoned officials of both Risen Sacco and Royal Swift Express Limited as investigations into the incidents continue. We remain committed to thorough investigations, and we will take appropriate action,” read the statement in part.
The authority expressed sadness over the Enterprise Road accident, which claimed four lives and left 15 other passengers injured.
NTSA conveyed its condolences to the families and friends of those who lost loved ones in the accident and wished those injured in the two incidents a speedy recovery.
“The Authority is saddened by the fatal road traffic crash involving a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operated by Risen Sacco along Enterprise Road in Nairobi’s Industrial Area.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends of those who lost their loved ones. We wish those injured a swift and full recovery,” NTSA stated.
Further, the road safety regulator urged PSV operators and crew members across the country to exercise maximum caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to help reduce accidents on Kenyan roads.
“All PSV operators and crew members are urged to exercise maximum caution and strictly obey traffic rules,” the statement added.
The Enterprise Road accident happened at about 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 3, near the Dar es Salaam Roundabout in the Industrial Area.
The bodies of the deceased passengers were moved to the Nairobi City Mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examinations.
