The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhanda in connection with the attack on Linda Mwananchi’s convoy in Kisii.
In a statement on Sunday, July 5, the National Police Service (NPS) announced that Jhanda had been summoned to appear at a police station to record a statement over the attacks.
“Hon. Zaheer Jhanda, MP for Nyaribari Chache, has this morning been summoned to appear before the Kisii County DCI office in connection with the ongoing investigations,” read the statement in part.
NPS also announced that four more suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack that occurred at Keumbu along the Kisii–Keroka Road on Friday.
According to the service, the operation was conducted jointly by officers from Keumbu Police Station and detectives from DCI Kisii Central.
“The National Police Service wishes to provide a further update on the ongoing investigations and security operation following the violent attacks that occurred at Keumbu, along the Kisii–Keroka Road, on Friday 3 July 2026.
“The operation, led by the OCS Keumbu and DCI Kisii Central, has resulted in the successful arrest of four additional suspects, bringing the total number of arrests to seven,” the NPS stated.
The attack occurred on Friday along the Kisii-Keroka highway as the Linda Mwananchi leaders moved to Keroka from Kisii for a rally.
Former Chief Justice and 2027 presidential hopeful David Maraga’s vehicle was vandalized during the incident.
Videos of the incident showed the attackers throwing stones and using clubs to target vehicles in the convoy, while also warning members of the public against passing through the area during the chaos.
Police officers on Saturday arrested three suspects over the attack and took them into custody ahead of arraignment in a court of law.
