The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)’s Central Management Committee has mandated the party leader, Oburu Oginga, to begin pre-election agreement talks ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement, the ODM party said the move is aimed at positioning the party not only to contest the next general election but to form the next government.
“The Committee directed that structured work commence immediately towards positioning ODM not only to contest next year’s general elections, but to form the next government, including policy development, organisational readiness, coalition building, and candidate preparedness,” read the statement in part.
As part of the coalition-building strategy, the committee authorised Oburu to commence alliance talks with the ruling UDA Party, while consultations with ODM members across the country will proceed ahead of a National Delegates Convention, where key decisions are expected to be ratified.
“The Committee meeting expressed the intention to initiate structured negotiations with different political formations, beginning with the United Democratic Alliance.
“To this end, we have mandated the Party Leader to commence this process. Concurrently, consultations with Party members will proceed, culminating in the National Delegates Convention,” ODM stated.

The Central Committee also assessed progress on the party’s 10-point agenda, with particular focus on compensation for victims of public protests.
The committee endorsed the court ruling that the Kenya National Human Rights Commission is mandated to handle compensation for victims of police brutality.
“Noting that the courts have declared the proposed Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Demonstrations and Public Protests unlawful, the Committee resolved to propose that any compensation monies be channelled through constitutionally and legally recognised institutions, specifically the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR),” ODM stated.
