Edwin Sifuna.
Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has written to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party seeking the removal of Edwin Sifuna from the Secretary General position.
In a letter dated Monday, December 5, Oketch accused Sifuna of gross misconduct and disrespect toward the party’s top hierarchy.
The Migori Senator also accused Sifuna of frustrating the Party’s efforts to meet its objective under Article 7(1)(aa), hence generally frustrating the Party’s progress, which he should be championing.
“Consequently, it is our Client’s prayers that: Hon. Senator Edwin W. Sifuna be, immediately, suspended from discharging his duties or carrying himself as the Secretary General of the Party,” read the letter in part.
Oketch also called for Sifuna’s de-whipping from all the parliamentary leadership positions and committees that he is serving.
Further, Oketch argued that Sifuna has been deemed to have resigned from the political party after he allegedly promoted the ideology, interests, or policies of another political party, violating Section 14A (1) (e) of the Political Parties Act.
“In the alternative to (3) above, commence the necessary disciplinary proceedings against Hon. Senator Edwin W. Sifuna for purposes of having him expelled from the Orange Democratic Movement Party if found culpable in accordance with Section 14B of the Political Parties Act No. 11 of 2011 of the Laws of Kenya,” the letter added.
This comes days after Sifuna accused Suna East MP Junet Mohamed of misappropriating funds meant to pay election agents during the 2022 General Election.
Speaking on Saturday, January 3, Sifuna accused Junet of suddenly condemning former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s money despite having benefited from them during the election period.
“Let me ask you, Junet, on what day did Uhuru’s money become bad? Was it the day you were taking that money and not even bringing it to the party? When you were pocketing Uhuru’s money instead of paying agents, allowing the current administration to defeat us, and now we are crying outside government? If it were not for you, Junet, we would be in government today. You cannot intimidate me,” he claimed.
