President Ruto Breaks Silence After UDA’s Humiliating Defeat in Ol Kalou

President William Ruto has broken his silence after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)’s candidate was defeated in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election held on Thursday, July 16.

Speaking on Friday, July 17, at State House, Ruto asked the newly elected Ol Kalou MP, Sammy Kamau Waweru of DCP, to put politics aside and focus on serving the people.

The Head of State told Kamau that at the end of the day, every leader, including him, would be judged by their work.

“Even the leader who was elected in Ol Kalou yesterday, the election is done; now get down to work. Every leader will be judged on the work that they have done for the people.

“The citizens are smart, and they know that every leader must have a track record, opinions, and plans to change our country,” Ruto stated.

The President also called on Kenyans not to allow elections to divide the country, saying political contests are temporary, but national unity must endure.

“Elections are not a matter of life and death. There will be Kenya after the election, and we must live together as brothers and sisters of one nation,” Ruto noted.

His remarks come after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Kamau as the Ol Kalou MP-elect.

Kamau garnered 35,440 votes to defeat UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga, who received 5,450 votes.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua congratulated Kamau for winning the by-election, saying his victory reflects the unmistakable voice of the people.

“Congratulations, Hon. Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, on your historic election as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency.

“You have won by a resounding margin, reflecting the unmistakable voice of the people. We thank the Almighty God for this great victory,” Gachagua wrote.

The DCP Party leader also thanked Ol Kalou constituency residents for voting for Kamau in the by-election en masse.

” Thank you, my great people, for refusing to sell your birthright and for being wise enough not to fall for the deception of development projects. Thank you a million times for guarding your vote and for standing firm despite the actions of rogue police officers armed with guns and tear gas,’ Gachagua stated.
