President William Ruto has moved PS Julius Bitok from the State Department of Basic Education.

In a statement on Tuesday, June 9, Felix Koskei announced that President Ruto has reassigned PS Bitok to the State Department of Tourism.

“His Excellency, the President, has this afternoon sanctioned re-assignments in the senior ranks of the Executive in the cadre of Principal Secretaries. By dint of the Presidential action, the following Principal Secretaries have been re-assigned as stated,” said Koskei.

The Head of State moved PS John Lekakeny Ololtuaa from the State Department for Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, to the State Department for Basic Education, Ministry of Education.

The new Basic Education PS is an educationist who started his education-based career in 1993 as an assistant Teacher. He later on became the Principal of Ennosaen Secondary School.

Through his consistent effort and commitment, PS Ololtuaa rose through the ranks to become District Education Officer in charge of Suba, Mbita, and Bomet Districts.

PS Ololtuaa also served as County Director of Education for Bomet and Kajiado Counties before being promoted to serve as a Regional Director of Education in charge of Eastern, Nairobi, Rift Valley, and Central Regions, respectively.

He holds a Bachelor of Education (Arts) Degree and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration, both from Kenyatta University.

The reshuflle comes in the wake of recent unrest in schools that have seen at least 200 schools.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday chaired a meeting aimed at addressing the unrest which has been witnessed in Secondary schools.

DP Kindiki noted that the Ministry of Education has been tasked to develop a mechanism for stakeholder engagement, develop proposals for fine-tuning service delivery in schools, and the safety of school communities.
