The Ministry of Education has opened a crucial seven-day window, starting December 23, 2025, for parents and guardians to appeal the Grade 10 senior school placements for learners who sat the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) 2025.
The announcement comes after the initial placement results, released on December 19, left some families seeking revisions.
The placement process, which was fully automated, considered learners’ choices, KJSEA performance, psychometric test results, equity considerations, and school capacity.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba highlighted that placements were also guided by learner performance and selected senior school learning pathways.
The KJSEA results, announced on December 11, assessed over 1.13 million learners, with 59.09% demonstrating potential for STEM pathways, 46.52% for Social Sciences, and 48.73% for Arts and Sports.
Parents wishing to appeal must do so through the headteachers of their child’s junior secondary school, who are the only authorized individuals to log into the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) portal for transfer requests.
Transfers are contingent on the target school declaring a vacancy through the County Director of Education. This revision process is a one-time opportunity, and once approved, the decision is irreversible.
Senior schools are categorized into C1 to C4 clusters, replacing the former national, extra-county, county, and sub-county classifications, with varying fee structures.
Learners are expected to report to their respective senior schools by Monday, January 12, 2026.
