Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai is on the spot after he allegedly drew a gun on Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino.
In a statement on Sunday, January 4, Babu disclosed that he was at a restaurant along Lenana Road in the Kilimani area without the company of his security.
The ODM MP said he was meeting with a senior clergyman, and after about 20 minutes of discussion, Babu said he noticed a group of people he knew seated at a nearby table, including Alai.
Babu said he approached the table to greet them, but was immediately accused by Alai of orchestrating alleged social media attacks on his wife.
“As I was departing, I noticed a group of people known to me seated at an adjacent table. Out of courtesy, I approached the table and greeted those present, including the MCA for Kileleshwa Ward, Hon. Robert Alai. Without provocation, he accused me of being behind alleged social media attacks on his wife,” Babu stated.
The Embaksi East MP said that he tried to explain to Alai that he did not know his wife and had no reason to involve her in politics.
Babu alleged that Alai then became aggressive, pushed him, drew a pistol, and struck him on the chest and jaw.
“At that point, Hon. Alai became aggressive, pushed me, drew a pistol, and struck me on the chest and jaw with it, all in full view of patrons at the establishment.
“I stood my ground and urged him to calm down, asking him to explain what wrong I had committed to warrant such a violent reaction. He appeared to cool down, and we briefly sat, with another person positioning himself between us,” he narrated.
Babu further said that although he tried to de-escalate the situation, Alai later poured a glass of water on his face in front of shocked restaurant patrons.
The ODM lawmaker then left the premises and reported the matter to Kilimani Police Station.
“Upon witnessing this escalation of affairs, and wishing to avoid any physical confrontation, I then immediately left the premises and proceeded to Kilimani Police Station, where I reported the matter.
“I take this incident very seriously. It was an unprovoked attack on my person, motivated by my political stand, and constituted a clear threat to my life,” Babu added.
