A 30-year-old man, Daniel Tanapua, has been apprehended in connection with the brutal killing of his 16-year-old nephew, Alpha Lemoosa, in Tuum Location, Samburu North Sub-County.
The tragic incident, believed to have stemmed from a domestic disagreement, occurred shortly after the two shared an evening meal on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and officers from Baragoi Police Station launched a swift operation following the report of the incident. Preliminary investigations indicate that a verbal dispute escalated into a violent confrontation, ultimately leading to the teenager’s death.
Law enforcement officers arriving at the scene discovered Lemoosa’s lifeless body in a pool of blood. A blood-stained Somali sword, believed to be the weapon used in the attack, was recovered from the crime scene.
Following a coordinated manhunt, Tanapua was tracked to a hideout where he was found allegedly attempting to wash blood-stained clothes, an act investigators believe was an effort to destroy evidence.
“He is currently in police custody, undergoing processing, pending arraignment,” the DCI stated.
Lemoosa’s body has been transported to Baragoi Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.
The DCI has urged the public to report any criminal activities anonymously through their toll-free line or WhatsApp.
This incident highlights the devastating consequences that can arise from unresolved domestic disputes, a growing concern in many communities.
As investigations continue, the community awaits further details regarding the motive behind this tragic family loss.
