Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been removed from the Senate Committee on Energy, chaired by ODM leader Oburu Oginga.
Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot announced the changes in the Energy Committee on Wednesday, June 17, on the floor of the house.
Senator Cheruiyot announced that Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang will replace Sifuna in the powerful committee.
“I rise to give notice of the following motion, which is a reconstitution of standing committees that, notwithstanding the resolution of the Senate made on February 12, 2025, is the approval of senators to serve in various committees,” Senator Cheruiyot stated.
At the same time, Garissa Senator Abdul Mohammed Haji joined the Committee on Energy, replacing Nominated Senator Beatrice Akinyi Ogolla.
Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu was nominated to the Senate Information, Communication, and Technology Committee, also replacing Ogolla.
On the other hand, Senator Ogolla was nominated to the Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries Committee, replacing Senator Kajwang.
However, Senator Sifuna was not reassigned to another committee, leaving him with membership in only two committees.
He remains in the County Public Accounts Committee, which is chaired by Senator Kajwang, and the National Security, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee, chaired by Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo.
The Nairobi Senator has been a huge critic of Oburu and President William Ruto’s broad-based administration.
Sifuna has since formed the Linda Mwananchi faction to consolidate support from Kenyans ahead of the 2027 General election.
The movement includes prominent politicians, including Siaya Governor James Orengo and his Murang’a counterpart Irungu Kang’ata.
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, and Suba South MP Caroli Omondi are also part of the faction.
