TikTok removed more than 884,000 videos in Kenya during the first quarter of 2026 for violating its Community Guidelines.
In a report released on Thursday, July 23, TikTok said the videos were taken down between January and March 2026 as the social media platform intensified efforts to curb harmful content and improve user safety.
According to TikTok, 99.7 per cent of the offending videos were detected and removed proactively before they were reported by users, while 96.3 per cent were taken down within 24 hours of being posted.
“These figures underscore TikTok’s continued investment in advanced detection systems and rapid response mechanisms designed to limit the spread of harmful content,” the report read in part.
The platform also stepped up efforts to protect minors by removing 48,739 accounts in Kenya that were suspected to belong to users under the age of 13, which is below the platform’s minimum age requirement.
Globally, TikTok removed a total of 184,012,576 videos during the quarter, representing about 0.5% of all content uploaded on the platform.
Of the videos removed worldwide, 178,014,154 were detected using automated moderation technologies, while 8,838,710 were later reinstated following further review.
“The platform recorded a 99.3% proactive removal rate, with 94.4% of flagged content removed within 24 hours of posting,” TikTok said.
The report also highlighted TikTok’s efforts to improve safety on its Live feature.
In Kenya, the platform interrupted 103,847 Live rooms for violating its Community Guidelines.
Further, the company reported increased enforcement against misleading AI-generated content.
During the first quarter of 2026, TikTok removed 14,261 videos for violating its policies on edited media and AI-generated content (AIGC).
The platform requires creators to label realistic AI-generated content and uses both creator labelling tools and automated detection systems to identify such material.
