A family in Nairobi’s Umoja 1 estate is reeling from the tragic death of their kin, Alphy Migasha, who succumbed to severe injuries sustained during an alleged assault by a military officer.
The family is now appealing to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin and the public for assistance, citing concerns over the slow pace of the police investigation and alleged threats from the suspect.
The incident, captured on CCTV footage from December 22, 2025, shows Migasha seated outside a liquor joint before being confronted and violently assaulted by a man identified as Nicholas Ireri Njue.
Migasha’s mother, Stella Okinda, recounted the horrifying scene: “I found my child bleeding from the eyes and with a swollen face. His clothes were stained with mud and blood. I fell on him, but the officer continued assaulting him”.
The footage reportedly shows the attacker forcefully pulling Migasha to the ground and continuing the assault even as witnesses attempted to intervene. The assailant then calmly walked away, leaving Migasha “writhing in pain and helpless on the ground”.
Migasha was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had sustained serious injuries, including chest injuries, a broken leg, and fractured ribs. Tragically, despite medical efforts, he passed away. “When we reached Mama Lucy, the doctor brought a stretcher, put us both in the same room and told me, ‘Mummy, it is too late, your son has gone,'” Okinda sobbed.
Buruburu DCIO Simon Kirui confirmed that the suspect, Nicholas Ireri Njue, is a military officer and the proprietor of the entertainment joint where the incident occurred. Kirui stated that police are investigating the case and are awaiting postmortem results to aid in the process.
However, Okinda has expressed deep frustration with the investigation’s progress, alleging that Ireri threatened the family after the attack. “The officer told me that an injury to the leg alone cannot warrant an arrest. We gave them everything they requested but have nothing about it,” she claimed, adding that Ireri allegedly took her son’s money and bag before leaving the scene. Reports also indicate that Ireri has been linked to two similar incidents previously.
The family’s plea for justice has reached DCI Mohamed Amin, who has acknowledged receiving the complaint. Migasha’s body remains at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary as the family continues their desperate search for answers and accountability.
“My son’s body is at Mama Lucy… I am crying, but he is here continuing with his business… I have gone to the police, everywhere, but I am not getting help,” Okinda lamented, urging the public and government to intervene.
The family’s struggle highlights broader concerns about alleged impunity and the need for swift and impartial justice in such cases.
